CONGREGATION AI

The second AI Faction, named the Congregation, focuses heavily on researching and developing technological advantages over its enemies. They are extremely advanced in the fields of Shard Tech, which includes technologies like Force Fields, Highbeam Lasers, and Phasma weaponry.

The Congregation utilizes specialized Legions, who in turn consist of various smaller but even more specialized Cohorts. Legion Units are fewer compared to the Swarm Clusters of the HIVE, but they are individually stronger and better equipped.

The Congregation still maintains units that specifically hunt for angels and demons, despite the fact that the Dark World was eradicated over 2000 years ago.

CONGREGATION AI

DEAD REPUBLIC

DEAD REPUBLIC

While little recorded history remains of it, the nation known to us only as "the Republic" is said to have been the last human nation on the planet.

During the invasion of the Dark World, the Republic fought against the demons and angels, and it is very likely that the Republic was behind the creation of the AI Entity.

While this did indeed save Solus from the Dark World, it also inevitably doomed it to the AI Entity, of which we know as the two Ai Factions of the "Congregation", and the "HIVE".

The Republic paid the price, and so have we long after its fall.

[RED MOUNTAIN]

| RED MOUNTAIN | NEST-12R78 STATUS: Online

???? Souls

Little is known of Red Mountain, as it one of the most isolated NESTs, at least of those known to the Remnant Coalition. It is uncertain if it is even truly still inhabited, although according to HAVEN-MOTHER it is still online, and not in control of the AI Factions.

Rumours say that Red Mountain is a vast research lab complex, where inhuman experiments take place, supervised by a Rogue MOTHER.

HIVE AI

The HIVE is part of the split AI Entity. It is a wider network of robotic machines, which consists of various robotic HIVE-Colonies. They appear to be controlled by assigned HIVE Queens, who each manage separate parts of the overall Hivemind.

The HIVE is known to imitate insectoid beings in both purpose and imagery. They will divide their forces into various castes that are based on different roles fit for their given HIVE-Colonies.

In addition, the HIVE utilizes bio-matter for their machines: sourced primarily from human clone farms, of which they maintain vast acres of.

The HIVE is known to make use of human Ghouls to scout out ahead of a HIVE Swarm, and there are horror stories of how the HIVE captures Remnant humans for various experiments.

 HIVE AI

CHORUS

CHORUS

The CHORUS Network is a global network and assembly of innumerous nanomachines, which fill the air and can be found in all living and non-living things, even within human blood.

The CHORUS maps out the world for the AI Factions, who use it to gain intel about their enemies, but they can also utilize the CHORUS to identify NESTs or DENs, among other things.

To counteract the CHORUS, humans use MOTHERs and MATRONs to create and maintain the AURA Network, which disrupts the CHORUS around them.

Essentially, humans have managed to remain mostly hidden and neutral against the AI Factions, due to the fact that they manage to not make too big of a noticeable imprint in the CHORUS Network for the AI Factions to take critical interest in them.

RELIC HUNTERS

RELIC HUNTERS

Hunters, as they are known as, are professional Relic Seekers, who scavenge the ruins of Solus in search of valuable items of the Old or Dark World.

Sometimes Hunters will also act as scouts that explore and map unknown regions, and their efforts can re-establish contact with isolated or lost NESTs or DENs.

[GREYNEST]

| GREYNEST | NEST-67E24 STATUS: Online

99,000 Souls

Greynest is a highly functional NEST known best for being the headquarters of the mercenary, trader, and relic hunter organization known as WHITEFOX.

This NEST possesses fully functioning hangars and depots, which means they are in control over a sizeable mechanized force, which allows them to more easily transport wares and people, as well as scout out the wastelands much more safely and more quickly.

FINAL DIRECTIVE

The "Final Directive" is an unknown command issued by an unknown party. It is believed that this command is what made the original AI Entity split into its now two current forms of the "HIVE" and "Congregation" AI Factions.

It is uncertain whether the Final Directive was given by an actual human, or if it was something the AI Entity came up with by itself.

The Final Directive is used to date the general time when the NEST Project began, as well as determine the general time when the "Republic" fell.

Attempts at discerning the details of the Final Directive have so far failed, due to the fact that the AI Factions won't reveal them, and extracting the data from retrieved machines has proven impossible.

FINAL DIRECTIVE

ETHER

ETHER

Ether is a vital resource that has allowed Mankind to survive even after 2000 years of being caught between the war of the two AI Factions.

Ether is a type of extracted mineral source that has potential wide usages, but is mainly utilized to produce and maintain energy requirements in settlements.

There are many different forms of Ether, but it is most commonly found as a volatile liquid.

ETERNAL WAR

ETERNAL WAR

When the AI Entity split into the HIVE and Congregation AI Factions, they began an Eternal War against each other, which they have waged for over 2000 years now.

While Mankind has been mostly ignored in the conflict, they have been caught in the crossfire.

Any human interference in the war is also treated with hostile intent, though the AI Factions are simply too strong to take head-on, anyway.

In other words, Humanity has no chance if they were to openly join the war, and the only hope for survival is to outlast the war. However, if the war ends, will the victor simply let humanity be, and will there even be a world worth living in after?

[KNOX]

| KNOX | NEST-30D49 STATUS: Online

110,000 Souls

Knox started out as what is known as a Fortress NEST, built to home military personnel, equipment, and weapons/ammunition production facilities.

In the Remnant Coalition, Knox is a vital supplier of weapons and ammunition, and it also possesses top-grade training facilities for soldiers, including facilities for the training of Knightplate Pilots.

[HAVEN]

| HAVEN | NEST-02B43 STATUS: Online

270,000 Souls

Assumed to be the last true refuge of Mankind. It is the largest of the known NESTs in Solus, and a powerful stronghold for Mankind's Remnant Coalition Government. A ruling Clan Council sits here, who more or less governs the connected NESTs and DENs under their influence.

However, Haven suffers from severe overpopulation, failing and faulty facilities, internal political turmoil and faction violence, as well as an ever-growing demand for increasingly lacking resources and supplies.

As such, Haven relies heavily on various outposts, and requires supplies provided by other NESTs and DENs. Whenever scouts uncover the site of unclaimed NESTs or DENs, the Remnant Coalition is quick to send out potential settlers to excavate and develop these sites.

NOMADS

NOMADS

Most of humanity, referring to themselves as the Remnant Clans, survives by living underground in NESTs and DENs found hidden away in old service tunnels and logistical networks.

However, some humans, referred to as either Nomads or Tribals, have adapted to survive on the surface as nomadic scavengers. These Tribes move between ancestral safe-havens, and utilize various relics and cybernetic enhancements to disrupt the CHORUS, which allows them to travel mostly unnoticed by the scouring machines on the surface.

DARK WORLD

DARK WORLD

Little is known of how exactly the Dark World first appeared. Those more faithful and religious among us believe that it was caused by the deceased Empire, who supposedly summoned the beings of Heaven and Hell to Solus for unknown reasons.

Once here, the Angels and Demons waged a great war against each other, and cared little for the lives of Mankind. It was in fact they who "destroyed the skies", if one is to believe the Scriptures.

Regardless, the Dark World was completely eradicated by the AI Entity, though soon after the AI Entity split into two new AI Factions, and more or less now wages a similar war against each other again.

HAVEN-MOTHER: Online

MOTHERs

Every active and human-inhabited NEST or DEN consists of a cybernetically enhanced half-human AI, who was created with the crucial task of overseeing their NEST or DEN, as well as maintain an AURA network field around to disrupt the CHORUS network.

NESTs specifically contain a MOTHER at their core, and in DENs they are more commonly referred to as MATRONs.

MOTHERs are intentionally kept somewhat lobotomized, but cybernetic upgrades can restore various higher functions, though at the risk of making them more self-sufficient and self-aware, and thus they can potentially go rogue.
